American Ancestors

Using U.S. census records

Given the strong historical links of emigration and legal heritage between the British Isles and the United States of America, we have found a fairly large number of British family historians find themselves researching their American ancestors at some point.

If you had ancestors in the United States, you can trace them by using U.S. census records on The Genealogist. You can also find American data in their other record types by turning on the Include U.S.A. filter on when searching for a person.
